Everything about basement
waterproofing
What do you have in your basement? Boxes of old
clothes and pictures? Or do you use your basement as a family room? Is
it carpeted with a TV, a sound system, or other electronics? Take what
your basement looks like, and add an inch of water to the floor. Now try
and calculate how much you would lose were that to happen. You have the
loss of your carpet, perhaps, some furniture, a computer maybe, You have
the loss of things of sentimental things, pictures, albums and what not,
you have the cost of repairing the leak, you have the loss of the use of
that room for however long, as well as the emotional ware of arranging
all of this.
Simple foundation waterproofing can prevent all of this. Whether you use
a liquid membrane to coat the inner surface of the basement, or a
sheeting membrane that has to be placed on the outer surface of the
basement. Another simple method of foundation waterproofing is the use
of cement products. This method is easily installed, but after it’s
laid, it is very sensitive to any shifting in the foundation.
Another common method of foundation waterproofing involves a clay called
Sodium Bentonite. This material makes a watertight seal around your
basement and completely prevents moisture from seeping through when
properly applied. There is also a somewhat complex, but effective system
involving concrete and asphalt. All of the above mentioned have
advantages and disadvantages, depending on the area it will be used, the
budget involved, time consumption, and desired affect.
