Everything about basement
waterproofing
Moisture is a large cause for damage to concrete.
But how do you know if there is moisture on, in, or around your
pavement?
Some of the obvious ways would be to search for dampness along your
walls, or signs of it (such as rusting, or stains.) Another way to
detect moisture is by smell. If the carpets or walls smell damp or
moldy. The next way to check is to look for causes. Are your drains or
gutters clogged? Is there reverse grading so puddles form against the
side of your house?
Check particularly well around any visible cracks. One way to do this
would be to seal a piece of aluminum to the surface of the concrete,
over the cracks with duct tape. Come back a day or two later and check
the foil for condensation.
